1. Weight Control:
Diabetes is usually caused when the weight of person is more. As compared to a normal person, your chances of getting diabetes are more if you are overweight. According to some research, if you are overweight, you have 20 times more chances of getting diabetes. So, it is better to lose weight. If your body mass index (BMI) is above the normal level (24-25), you should definitely lose some weight. Your diabetes risk will lessen if you lose weight.
To facilitate weight loss, you need to eat healthy food, as a part of weight loss plan. A weight loss program which is low in calories and has lower quantity of fats in it is ideal for you. Also, you need to eat the kind of food which makes you do more work. Also, don’t forget to exercise!
2. Make Healthy Food Choices:
You need to eat healthy foods in order to prevent diabetes. Fruits and vegetables should be your first choice. Include whole fruits instead of drinking fruit juices. Eat leafy green vegetables like kale, spinach and broccoli. Eat whole bread and cereals every day. You should also consume high calcium foods like low fat milk and yogurt. 4. More movement:
More calories are burned when a person moves more. By including physical activity into your daily routine, you will lose weight quickly. It isn’t necessary that you do strenuous exercises. Even moderate exercise will benefit you. Walking, biking, swimming, and jogging are some exercises that will help you in diabetes prevention. Also, you don’t need to do the exercises all at once. Small sessions of ten to fifteen minutes can be quite helpful for you. So, what you can do is that you can break your exercise routine into small sessions throughout the day.
5. Be More Social:
Being social is an excellent diabetes prevention tip. First of all, you move more, due to which the risk of diabetes is lessened and you think positive. So, you should go on walks with family and friends. If you have kids, you can also have fun time with them like playing different games.
6. Avoid Alcohol:
The triglycerides and blood pressure levels in the body are increased by the intake of alcohol; this can increase your chances of getting diabetes. So, avoiding alcohol is the best choice you’ve. If you are addicted to alcohol, try bringing it down to, may be, two drinks a day.
7. Don’t Smoke:
Smoking is also a cause for diabetes. Research has shown that smokers are 50% more prone to get diabetes as compared to non-smokers. So if you smoke, you should quit smoking because it’s the key for diabetes prevention.
